Survey of ASEAN Peoples’ Perceptions on
China, India, Japan, and the USA 2023

FPCI sees the US, China, Japan, and India politically, economically, and strategically as the four most strategic partners for ASEAN. ASEAN’s led regional mechanism would never be effective or impactful without the support of the four, such as at the East Asia Summit and the ASEAN Regional Forum, which would never be relevant without the presence of the four as well. The same situation applies to the AOIP. Even the RCEP provides a special mechanism for India to rejoin the framework. However, FPCI often found that those countries were lost in knowing what Southeast Asians thought about them and how the relationship went from the region's perspective. In light with that, FPCI conducted Survey of ASEAN Peoples’ Perceptions on China, India, Japan, and the USA 2023 to capture Southeast Asians' candid perspective on these four strategic ASEAN partners. This survey is participated by 1,722 respondents from 11 ASEAN countries.
